Loose ends

I had just started a document called loose ends when I realised this is something I should write about on the blog. Perhaps - hopefully - in my dreams - you will provide me with the needed advice to put the missing pieces in the right places.

Warning! This post may contain words, phrases and thoughts that are unfit for non-rhetoricians.

1. Genre discussion. My whole thesis presupposes my support for explicit genre teaching. Thus, I do what every other good rhetorician does and disagree with Freedman who runs a lost cause in Show and tell?, but who nevertheless gets cited in just about every paper handed in at the Rhetoric Department. So, my question is: I really don't care about this discussion, and I know that my professor and I share the same view: Rhetorical teaching is genre teaching since both is about the function of a text and what to do with it. This makes the discussion superfluous, in my honest opinion. But am I just being a rhetorical prat here?

2. OK, the genre thing kinda made me forget the other loose ends... I'll have to get back to you.
